Let the countdown begin. :)
We have 11 weeks to go, and 11 songs on the album. So I am going to spend each week sharing the journey of every song, since each one of them has their own individual story.
First up, is the song "Worth Fighting For." This is one of the first songs I ever wrote, and it was inspired by 1 particular person, but ended up being about 3 different people. If I was going to pick a word for the song, it would be STRENGTH.
This song came out of a relationship in my life that seemed like everything was truly meant to be, and I really believed that I had found my person, as did the friends and family who met him. We had a similar lust for life, big adventurous visions for the future and could talk for hours. And man was he handsome. :) But in the blink of an eye, everything changed, and he ran. I take responsibility for my end of it, since it takes two people to end something, but to this day I still don't quite understand what happened with that one. I started writing this song to heal since I felt very hurt and confused, which lead to feeling unworthy and unloved, and I started questioning if there was something wrong with me somehow. Writing this song was how I found strength to realize that I am always whole and worthy no matter what. He simply wasn't the one, and my self love and worth has nothing to do with how someone else feels about me.
Once I started arranging this song with my co-producer Jacob Sweet, it took on a whole life of its own. I changed the lyrics in the 2nd and 3rd verse, and wrote about two other relationships that made me feel similar emotions, and had me questioning myself all over again. Finally, I made the lyrics in the chorus bolder and Jacob helped arrange it to sound a little more...well, rockin. Besides being a reminder that my own self worth is innate and not something I have to search for (a good lesson for all of us) another lesson in this story is that once I find the guy that is willing and smart enough to fight for me, he'll be the right one. :)
Worth Fighting For
Music and Lyrics by Natalie Myre
You are the one for me you just don’t know it
I’ll let you figure, figure it out but
I can tell by the way that you look at me that you are crazy about me
But what are you afraid of? Afraid to lose me?
Afraid for the other shoe to drop?
It’s not gonna drop baby I want you
But right now, you’re missing it
Why is it every time we get closer you take one step and you start turning turning
I don’t know why you’re pushing me away I can’t stand it
I can’t stand it
What are you afraid of, afraid to love me, afraid that it won't work out
It’s gonna work out baby I love you
But right now oh but right now you’re missing it
If you can’t see it, I can’t help you
If you don’t get it I don’t get you
If you can't love me I don’t want you
Cause I’m worth fighting for
I find it strange that you can look right through me and act like you’ve never seen me before
The truth is baby you’re the one that I feel sorry for
But what are you afraid of, afraid to choose me, afraid that I’ll let you go
I'm here for you baby I choose you
But right now oh right now you’re missing it
If you can’t see it, I can’t help you
If you don’t get it I don’t get you
If you can't love me I don’t want you
Cause I’m worth fighting for
